Diary of a Shed - 20 June 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
I was determined not to let the weather beat me today, so I had a plan of action: I would do all the cutting at once, then all the fitting into place at once. That way, even if it rained, chances were that I would still not have to take the mitre saw in and out quite so often. It worked quite well, and I cut 4 rafters for the back section of the shed roof and quickly fitted them into place - I've got this down to an art now, and it didn't take me long at all.

Inbetween some light rain and the 5pm deadline (Grand Prix - thou shalt not miss!) I also managed to add the overhang to the back of the roof as well, and considering that wasn't part of today's plan I was quite pleased with that. All in all a much better day than yesterday!

As I don't have the three hands necessary to hold the overhanging rafter at two ends and screw it in at the same time, I attach some small bits of plywood to the top. These rest on the horizontal supports for the overhang, and allow me to quickly screw things together, removing the plywood strips later.
