Diary of a Shed - 18 October 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
More shingling and more great progress. I managed to complete the whole of the left-hand side of the roof, except for the ridge shingles which go on top. I must remember to do them before I move the scaffolding to the other side of the shed, otherwise there will be no way to get up there.

One important thing to tell you: Gisburne's Patented Super-reach Nailer Tool has another use! It can now be used to lift the end of the chalk line, and hook it over the nail (see yesterday) so that I don't have to use the roof ladder. Top tackle, my stick - I'm glad I saved it!

There's not a lot more I can say, other than that I'm very pleased with the results, and it's not complicated, just a lot of work!

As the lines of shingles were getting longer as I progressed up the roof, it was taking longer and longer to finish a row, so using the pyramid pattern helped because I was quickly up to the top of the roof, albeit in only a small section. As a whole, the roof will take the same amount of time, but rather than filling in a huge area line by line you fill in lots of smaller pieces, which to me anyway was more satisfying.
