Diary of a Shed - 2 September 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
This window took 5 hours to fit, which is about 4 hours longer than we anticipated! You'd think it would take a lot less, given that we had a window frame and a window and it's just a case of putting one inside the other. However, it's never that simple, and there's frame sealant, a bit of drilling, a bit of routing for the clips which hold it in, and a LOT of planing to plane down a piece of wood which both blocks the gap and makes the whole thing level. We also had to take the glass out to fit it, then put it back in again, and back in was a lot more difficult. You'd think if you took out the clips one way you'd put them back in reverse order, right? Well we tried and we tried and that didn't work, so after half an hour of banging we read the instructions and it said fit the bottom and top ones first, followed by the sides. We tried that and they went in in about 2 minutes flat! Even when you think you're using common sense, still follow the instructions because they obviously know better! I should also mention that the drill/driver battery went flat as soon as we needed it so we had to stop and wait for that too!

Double glazing in the shed, eh? That's better than the windows in the house! Lockable, non-draughty and non-rotting for a start! Very posh, and very cultured, so here's some Shakespeare for you...

Is this a window I see before me?
