On the finishing straight now, well at least for the underlay anyway! Yesterday I added the more difficult of the two missing pieces, the one on the right, which has no scaffolding to help me so had to be lowered down from the other side. Because of that I decided to cut it into two pieces and overlap them - no real benefit in struggling with a huge pieces of underlay when I have very little grip on it. I also didn't want it to wrinkle up like the felt did on the back roof, so better safe than sorry. It worked well and I'm pleased with the result.

That was yesterday (30th) and today I discovered that the overlap hadn't quite stuck properly (well it was only 3 or 4 inches so it just straightened itself and lifted off) so I nailed it back down with some clout nails, then painted the remaining gap with primer. I'm glad that job is over because I have constantly had black knees these last few days (using ripped jeans and kneeling on the primer!). While it was drying I decided to tidy up the patio (if I can call it that - 'slab area' is more realistic) which was a total jungle as you'll see. The final piece went on with no fuss because my mate Glynn helped to roll it out. I asked him if he was worried being up my scaffolding, hoping that he was(!) and he said no, except for the fact that there was the weight of two of us up there at once, and that got ME worried so it backfired a little bit! It's done, it's covered, it's waterproof. At last! Now all I have to do is cover the whole thing again with asphalt shingles. Oh joy!

One down, one to go.
