Diary of a Shed - 14 August 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
After days of torrential rain (some leftover tropical storm that got lost and hit my shed), we got some good weather and typically it was on a day when I wanted to watch the F1 qualifying! It's worse tomorrow, it's going to be sunny again and it's the actual race, which is a lot longer. So I had to work around it.

Today's task is to cover up one of the valleys with underlay, so it needed painting with primer. Easier said than done because if you look at the shed, I can reach a small way over the top and some way across when up the ladder, but what about the bit in the middle? Luckily I had my secret weapon, a brush with an extra-long handle (about 18 inches) and that did the trick, though not without some scary acrobatics leaning over the top!

Putting the underlay on was quite tricky. I decided to fold it in half and peel off one side of the backing paper, smooth it down, then do the other side. All sounds simple, right? Wrong! I had to stick down a small section of it first so the whole lot didn't slide down. Then because it bends over the top and bottom of the roof that makes it difficult to lie flat. I was up and down the ladders about 20 times, and each time I was I had to take the ladders from the side of the shed round the back so I could get up the scaffolding... then come back again. It all worked out well in the end, and there is now no way for the water to get in that way. One valley down, one to go!

Primer on!
