Diary of a Shed - 22 June 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
There was a gap in the roof yesterday, and today it's no longer there - it's all full of rafters! A little dance around the shed is called for! It was supposed to be heavy rain today, but that only started late at night, so I managed to do quite a lot. All the rafters are done except one, and the one is the final overhanging rafter on the right-hand gable end. Rain is forecast all day tomorrow, and a few days after that, so it will have to wait for a sunny day.

The other thing I did was cut out the timber which was stretching across the entrance to both doorways. This was there so that the walls could be lifted up and remain rigid without twisting around as they were raised. I left them in this long just in case, but now the roof is so solid there is no movement in any of the walls, so these pieces could go. The other reason I chose today was the REALLY heavy rain that was forecast, which I anticipated would be too much for the tarpaulins to contain, so the floors are left open to the elements (no tarpaulins at all). With the timber in the doorways it would have let the water form a deep pool, but now it's gone the rain should run out of the side of the shed as quickly as possible. I need to get the actual roof boards/felt on as soon as possible - not sure how long the floors will hold up, even though they are WBP (weatherproof) plywood.

Hey, I just framed quite a complex roof and it looks good! Still a lot to do, but more has been done than is left to do, so I'm happy that it's all coming together, piece by piece.

The last section of the roof is finally filled in. Some of the rafters are not exactly opposite ones on the other side, but I don't care! Who's going to see them after they're covered up?!
