It's getting easier now, and I've really mastered the art of making standard rafters which are exactly the same each time. I have a template (the first rafter I made, which took about 2 or 3 hours!) and just draw round it and cut - simple! The jack rafters are even easier because they don't have the notch (bird's mouth joint) at one end - I just measure up and make two cuts, one to fit against the ridge, the other to fit against the valley rafter. The only tricky part is getting the correct length, but I measure the approximate length with a tape measure, cut a bit extra and then fine tune it to fit correctly.

So today I filled in one section of the valley, which I'm pretty pleased with. The other section won't take too long, so I'll start that tomorrow. I'm just having a few problems finding ways of climbing up to fit things together - the roof is rapidly filling the space I need for the step ladders, so I'm having to use a single ladder leaning against the timber. I don't like that much, but I'm actually getting a lot more confident about being up so high, so that's either a good sign and adding the felt will go well, or it's a bad sign and I'll be careless and kill myself. If you don't hear from me for a while, get worried!

Look look look! One section filled in! I'm VERY happy with this!
