Diary of a Shed - 9 June 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
Three days of searing heat, which I really can't stand, including the hottest day of the year so far - and it's been humid too, which is worse still. Work is hard under these conditions so I've had to do a few hours in the morning and stop, then (not often!) go back later in the afternoon when the heat dies down again.

I've made gradual progress, including a day of making rafters on the 7th (I made 4 pairs then had a nap!), adding 3 pairs to the front section of the shed on the 8th and adding the other pair of rafters on the 9th. These don't make great photo opportunities so I've not taken many pictures, but the end result is good - the front section of the shed has all its rafters and ceiling joists in place!

You can also now see what the notches in the front rafters were for. I've added the timber pieces which overhang the front of the shed, and to these will be added another pair of rafters, sort of in mid-air, but screwed in place so as not to defy the laws of gravity! That's the next job (and I'll do the same with the other gable ends), so keep watching.

Small update: it cooled down in the evening so I added the end rafters - see the last two pictures.
