Diary of a Shed - 2 June 2004 < Back    Next >    HOME
This update covers quite a few days because the weather has been a little bit changeable so I've only been able to do small jobs now and again, with a few full days here and there. On the 29th of May there was a big downpour in the morning which created a nice paddling pool in the tarpaulin. However that was nothing compared to the one on the 1st of June, when it rained all day - next day we literally had to bale out the tarpaulins with buckets because they were 2 inches deep in water!

Inbetween all this rain we put the final OSB boards on the walls (30th May), and built and attached the three gable ends for the roof (one on 31st May, the other two on 2nd June) - yes, the roof is finally starting to go up! One little concern is that from top to bottom the shed is 3.7 metres. The law says you can go up to 4 metres. That's fine until you remember that the ridge is another 0.2 metres (total 3.9m!) and on top of that will be the roof's OSB and felt. VERY close to the limit! Oh well it's a limit so we can go right up to it, and anyway if the council want to argue I'll say that the ground slopes and point to the 8 inches of soil at the front which had to be dug out to get it all level - in effect the shed starts BELOW ground level. Anyway, the roof is starting to go up, and although it doesn't look much now, just keep watching!

View from above to show that all the external boards are now on. Looking good!
